After much discussion over at The Friendly Atheist, it's now Book Turnover Day thanks to Tom Foss. Dan Harlow and Saint Gasoline now think this is a better idea than reshelving. The extremely long overdue review of Hordagaard's My Glory For Satan CD is finally done! It only took five months and a really shitty job getting in my way but it's finally DONE. http://danharlow.com/?p=503
Neal Stephenson likes 300: http://tinyurl.com/23mb8a I finished a review of a small PA-based band Subpoena at BNNBN.COM. Go read, people! This week has been excellent so far. I'll elaborate now. So I'm sitting outside right now and it's damn humid. I could be inside with the nice AC and everything but where's the fun in that? Tomorrow is my last day at the Universit I work at and I'm gonna be sad to leave. I've been there almost 3 years and it's been a real trip, especially lately. But it's going to be ohso nice starting something new where I can LEARN and get PROMOTIONS. Good times shall be had. I'm finally getting a Linux-based job and I can't wait. One thing I don't like is the fact that I gotta get up so damn early for work :(. Tonight I decided to catalogue all my new CDs. I had far more than I thought. In the last three months alone, I've purchased almost 60 CDs. This isn't including non-metal CDs I've bought nor the 5 or so I've gotten from lala.com in the last month. If I factor in those CDs and all the vinyl I've bought, that comes out to well over 100 albums since January. I can't believe the bulk of that has been bought since March and at least 15 in the last three weeks alone. Opeth AND Arch Enemy are playing Gigantour 2006!#%$*@#* If any of you chumps know of a company that will custom silkscreen t-shirts for relatively cheap (hopefully under $13 a shirt with screening), please let me know. I'm looking to do a run of maybe 15-30 shirts depending on price. Well, we're back from Sounds of the Underground Tour 2006. It was just like it was last year: bad sound, very hot, GWAR pissing on people, and us sweating like crazy. We saw GWAR and hemoth again, finally caught TERROR live, unwillingly saw The Black Dahlia Murder, missed some other excellent bands, and saw Cannibal Corpse live. Overall, it was OK and it maintains the reason I steer away from big shows: they're usually boring, always have bad sound, and cost an arm and a leg to attend. I saw Katie, Stephen and his wife (???) again but missed rightcoast :( Tonight I downloaded a lot of nerdcore because it's awesome. And funny. It makes me remember how much of a nerd I am when I listen....and thusly identify with or know about everything in the songs. I nearly forgot about my LJ! I've been so extremely busy lately working to get reviews written and trying to get some promo materials from bands so I can spread the posters and junk around here. So far, it's working out OK as I've already gotten one label to work with and a few bands behind me and it makes me realize how much my day-to-day sucks. I've also got some other business plans I'm working on in relations to music but details will come later. And let me tell you, it was fucking AWESOME. Bands in attendance (in order of stage appearance): The Absence (west coast thrash), Graveworm (Italian symphonic blackened death metal), SPEED\KILL/HATE (east coast thrash), Destruction (80s style German thrash), Kataklysm (Canadian death metal), and finally Vader (Polish death metal). We missed most of The Absence's set because we were eating but what I heard was decent enough. Graveworm was fucking incredible as I've been waiting three years to see them here in the States. Aside from Destruction, Graveworm got the best crowd reaction the entire night and they were insanely surprised at this! They had no idea they'd get such support especially being the second band on the bill for the night. Their set was the first one in who knows how long where I assumed the "thrash metal stance" and headbanged my heart out (or would that be my head off?). Today, I really paid for it but who cares, you only live once! I've got a bunch of pics and some videos of their set I'll be posting up tomorrow. There's a number of pictures of myself and the band members throughout the night and one of Miss Marilyn from SMV distro in Pennsylvania. I missed SPEED\KILL/HATE since I've heard them before and it's not my thing. Next up was thrash metal vets Destruction. Twenty-four years in the scene and they're still fucking ripping it to shreds. Speculation exists that they are the first German thrash metal band and I'd honestly believe it since they started back in '84 before thrash had a name. They put on an excellent set chocked full of noodlin' and wicked vocals. Kataklysm followed and I thought it was a bit lack luster of a performance but I'm not very well versed in their back catalogue so I didn't expect much out of it. The lights during their set gave me an extreme headache which only made my headbang neck pain even worse. Welcome to the National Day of Slayer MARDUK - Fuck Me Jesus |
